Oluwatobi Ogbechie, MD, MBA discusses her 2016 AAD poster, “Measuring the costs of shave and punch biopsy techniques using time-driven activity-based costing" with Dermatology Times Editorial Advisor, Elaine Siegfried, MD. Recognizing that in Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes, Dr. Ogbechie, noted that reimbursements are usually based on procedures rather than techniques. By applying time-driven activity-based costing to shave and punch biopsy techniques, she was able to determine which technique was actually more valuable based on outcomes and cost.
