The Cicatricial Alopecia Research Foundation (CARF) convened its first patient conference in late August. CARF's mission is to provide funds for research to find effective treatments and a cure for cicatricial alopecia, to support education and advocacy and to raise public awareness. According to Chief Executive Officer Sheila Blekin, the conference provided patients with the opportunity to meet other patients, learn about the latest treatments and cosmetic solutions, ask questions of renowned clinicians and researchers, participate in small group discussions and share experiences and support. Standing from the left in the back row are presenters Drs. Elizabeth Ross, Ken Washenik, Vera Price, Paradi Mirmirani, Maria Hordinsky and Jenny Fu. Standing from the left in the front row are Dr. Jerry Shapiro, CARF co-founder and CEO Sheila Belkin, Drs. Andrea Willey and Ingrid Roseborough.
