San Antonio - Adam Jeremy Freidman, M.D., won first place in the North American Clinical Dermatologic Society (NACDS) Resident Clinical Research Award competition, sponsored by Abbott Laboratories.
Awards were announced at the annual NACDS dinner meeting here on Feb. 1.
Dr. Freidman, a dermatology resident at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York City, was honored for his submission "Antimicrobial and Anti-inflammatory Activity of Chitosan-alginate Nanoparticles: A Novel Targeted Therapy for Cutaneous Pathogens."
Joseph W. McGowan IV, M.D., won second place and a $1,500 honorarium for his paper "Risk Factors in Atopic Dermatitis." Dr. McGowan is a dermatology resident at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, S.C.
Allen T. Bruce, M.D., Ph.D., won third place and a $1,000 honorarium for his paper "Induction of Memory IL-17 Cell Trafficking and Expansion by IFNy: Mechanism and Pathological Relevance." Dr. Bruce is a dermatology resident and research fellow at the University of Michigan Department of Dermatology, Ann Arbor, Mich.
