Philadelphia - Dermatology Times welcomes Albert C. Yan, M.D., as the newest member to its Editorial Advisory Council. Dr. Yan is the chief of pediatric dermatology at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where he is also an associate professor of pediatrics and dermatology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

As a pediatric dermatologist, Dr. Yan focuses on technologies that facilitate the diagnosis of skin disease, as well as those that improve outcomes, in children. He has participated as a researcher in investigations of such technologies.

Albert Yan, M.D.

“I am excited to share my interests in pediatric dermatology and information technology with the broader community of practicing dermatologists,” he says. “I'm especially excited about noninvasive technologies, including computer-assisted diagnostic methods.”

Noninvasive diagnostic approaches are particularly beneficial in pediatric dermatology, because they can reduce the need for skin biopsies, he explains. Examples of technologies that can facilitate noninvasive diagnosis include dermoscopy and confocal in vivo laser microscopy.

“We are fortunate to live in a time of rapid technological innovation,” Dr. Yan says. “New applications and devices become available on a daily basis.”

As a member of the Editorial Advisory Council, Dr. Yan says he will be committed to keeping the community of practicing dermatologists “abreast of the most exciting innovations relevant to dermatologists.”
