Extended ablation laser unveiled

The Whisper extended ablation laser is one of several new technologies designed to bridge the gap between purely ablative and non-ablative rejuvenation, providing the best of both worlds, the manufacturer says.

A product of Radiancy, the laser is designed to offer a true laser peel without the downtime. A proprietary fluence level with an extra-long pulse width achieves what the company calls "extended ablation" of the skin.

Peeling is spread over three to five days and occurs simultaneously with the re-epithelialization process. The manufacturer says the process noticeably improves skin texture without unduly exposing the underlying dermis.

Because the healing process is subtle, patients can generally use makeup the next day, the company says.
