Adventures Along the French Broad River

The third-oldest river in the world offers gorgeous views and good times. Whether you are new to rafting or consider yourself a seasoned rafter, groups of all ages and experience levels can raft the French Broad for full- and half-day trips. For a more leisurely excursion, relax on a tube and float down the river. Paddle boards and kayaks are also available for rent.

Visit the Biltmore Estate

The 250-year-old castle once belonged to George Vanderbilt. Explore the castle and grounds on your own or book a tour. Be sure to give yourself time to take in the stunning views or wander through the extensive gardens. Biltmore is also home to the nation’s most-visited winery. Reservations are required to visit the estate.

Hike or Bike the Blue Ridge Mountains

Within a short drive of Asheville, you will find hundreds of trails to lead you to waterfalls or through dense forests. Whether you are looking for a strenuous day of hiking or biking, or prefer a relaxing hour strolling through the mountains, you can find it in the thousands of miles of trails that twist through the Blue Ridge. Biking enthusiasts will find no shortage of trails in Pisgah National Forest, just a short drive from Asheville. Hit the trails on your own or sign up for a guided tour.

Book a Scenic Tee Time

Asheville’s mountain location offers golfers a unique experience that other courses cannot duplicate. Enjoy spectacular scenery at one of the more than 40 championship courses within an hour’s drive of the area.

Exploring the Unique Shops

From outlet malls to niche shops, visitors will find it in Asheville. Visit downtown for bustling crowds and unique boutiques, souvenir shops, and art galleries. In the River Arts District, you can visit with artists, take a class, find unique gifts, and grab a bite along the way. If you want to hit the outlet stores, Asheville Outlets offers more than 70 name brand shops.

Stroll Through the North Carolina Arboretum

With more than 10 miles of trails and several garden spaces, including the Bonsai Exhibition Garden and Wildflowers at the Arboretum, there is plenty to see at the North Carolina Arboretum. Saturday, September 30 is Monarch Butterfly Day and you can celebrate and learn more about the beautiful creatures.

Drive Along the Blue Ridge Parkway

The 469-mile road stretches from Shenandoah National Park in Virginia to Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina. Frequent, paved overlooks offer expansive views of the mountains, which are gorgeous in the fall. You can find access to hiking and biking trails. The parkway is easy to explore and has no admission fee.
