Tina Alster, M.D., joins Derm Times' advisory council

Dr. Alster is the founding director of the Washington Institute of Dermatologic Laser Surgery in Washington, D.C., and clinical professor of dermatology at Georgetown University. She is a world-renowned lecturer and author on the subject of cosmetic laser surgery.

Recently, Dr. Alster opened the first male center for medical and cosmetic dermatology at the Washington Institute of Dermatologic Laser Surgery. She says she believes that males are a growing patient demographic that demands more attention.

“This is a whole new area for physicians and for industry, and one that I expect will spur a new era of clinical research,” she says. “The vast majority of studies have been conducted with women subjects until now, and as physicians, we are going to learn a lot more about what is appropriate for men aesthetically.”

Dermatology Times Editor-in-Chief Amy Stankiewicz says that she expects Dr. Alster's extensive experience in aesthetic procedures and laser surgery to augment the publication's coverage of cosmetic dermatology.

Dr. Alster received her B.S. and M.D. degrees from Duke University and underwent post-graduate training at Yale University. DT
