Aesthetics Across Specialties

Dr. Joe Niamtu, III, discusses the evolution of aesthetics across specialties over the past two decades, from the introduction of Botox for wrinkles to tumescent liposuction, and the overall benefits of having a multispecialty community working together to advance the space.

Plastic surgeons were the original pioneers of aesthetic medicine, but many specialties influenced the aesthetics as we know it today, according to Joe Niamtu, III, DMD, a facial cosmetic surgeon in Richmond, Va., who’s been around since the advent of Botox and tumescent liposuction.

The best ideas come “When you have more people sitting around the table... more minds... more technology, more innovation—and that’s exactly what happened,” he says. “As things have played out and progressed, there are places for all of these specialties doing what they do.”
