Back-to-school season is an opportunity for dermatology clinicians to empower pediatric, adolescent, and young adult patients with treatment solutions for diagnoses including acne, atopic dermatitis, and skin cancer.
August is a monumental month for students of all ages—a new routine is implemented, and new challenges arise. This is an opportunity for dermatology clinicians to empower pediatric, adolescent, and young adult patients with treatment solutions for diagnoses including acne, atopic dermatitis, and skin cancer.
In this month’s issue, we have zeroed in on treatment options for your youngest patients and stayed on top of the US Food and Drug Administration’s approval of Verrica Pharmaceuticals’ VP-102 for the treatment of molluscum contagiosum. Shanna Miranti, MPAS, PA-C, a board-certified physician assistant at Riverchase Dermatology in Naples, Florida, specializes in adult and pediatric dermatology and treats molluscum contagiosum frequently at her practice. She shares the enhanced care she will now be able to provide in a Q&A with Dermatology Times.
We also had the pleasure of gaining insight from Monique Kumar, MD, Mphil, at AdventHealth for Children, and affiliate assistant professor at University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida, on the journey of port wine stain removal for infants and children. She shared her son’s pulse dye laser treatment experience and how it made her a better clinician.
Aside from several articles spotlighting treatment solutions for common conditions in young patients, there are also plenty of pearls to put into practice in the treatment of adults in the August issue. Nicholas Brownstone, MD, gives an overview of cannabinoids in dermatology and skin care in light of National CBD Day on August 8. Discover what clinicians are obligated to disclose about their own health in our Legal Eagle column with David J. Goldberg, MD, JD. Finally, learn how to avoid making the top 5 money mistakes with tips from our financial guru David B. Mandell, JD, MBA.
