New derm surgery league forms

A new international professional group has been formed for dermatologic and aesthetic surgeons, Medscape Today reports.

Chicago - A new international professional group has been formed for dermatologic and aesthetic surgeons, Medscape Today reports.

The Chicago-based Dermatologic and Aesthetic Surgery International League (DASIL) was founded to provide international teaching and mentoring and to build a united international dermatologic and aesthetic community.

The organization’s goal is to build a group of the world’s most skilled and dedicated practitioners and have them share their expertise with dermatologists and aesthetic surgeons around the world. DASIL will begin hosting educational events in the coming months. DASIL officials say they plan to hold the group’s first annual meeting in Cape Town, South Africa, next year and are considering Shanghai for the 2013 meeting.

DASIL’s founding group consists of Michael H. Gold, M.D., of Nashville, Tenn., and Marc Roscher, M.D., of Umhlanga, South Africa. Dr. Gold is medical director of Gold Skin Care Center and the Tennessee Clinical Research Center in Nashville, and assistant clinical professor of dermatology at Vanderbilt University Medical School and Vanderbilt University Nursing School. Dr. Roscher is the current director of dermatologic surgery at the Nelson R. Mandela School of Medicine in Durban, South Africa, and editor-in-chief of the South African Journal of Dermatologic Surgery.

Information on membership and other ways to become involved in DASIL can be found by visiting the organization’s website at www.theDASIL.org.
