Tips for Injecting the Tear Troughs

Author(s):

Dr. Sheila Barbarino shares pearls for injecting the tear trough with dermal fillers.

In her presentation, “Periocular Fillers: Right or Wrong—What I Do in My Practice,” at the recent virtual meeting of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS), Sheila Barbarino, MD, FAAO, FAACSS, FACS, says technique is integral to successful tear trough treatment.

“The key to getting it right, is making sure that the patient is upright while injecting and looking straight ahead,” she says.

Other tips include anatomical considerations, being selective with patient and treatment choices, and addressing allergies, which can negatively affect outcomes.
